Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin September 1st 2008

Neighbourhood Watch Bulletin September 1st 2008
From PCSO Danny Suarez Mori
In the Cowfold area horses were stolen from some stables and a garage was broken into.

Horse security advice:
Horses can be freeze marked as a visible deterrent to police by making it instantly recognisable.

A microchip can be implanted under the horse’s skin.

Keep a detailed description of your horse including photographs of both sides of the horse and one of its head.

Field perimeters should be secured and a padlock and chain fitted to all field gates.

In the field, consider leaving your horse without a head collar unless it is particularly difficult for you to catch.
This should delay or deter potential thieves and or malicious persons.

Ensure that gates can not be lifted off their hinges – either reverse the top hinge or weld metal plates over the edges.

Also if anyone sees anything unusual, or sees horses which are unusual to a particular location, please contact Sussex Police straight away.

In the Partridge Green area reports of Anti-social driving at the High Street and Star Trading Estate.

Whenever possible, and without putting yourselves at any risks, please make a note of the indexes of these vehicles.

That way we could check these indexes and find out the registered owners and their addresses.

This would allow me to get in contact with the owner of the vehicle and its driver.

If there is more than one witness to this Anti-social driving, then a section 59 warning (which lasts 12 months) could be issued, meaning that if found driving in an Anti-social manner again, within that 12 months then the vehicle can be seized and it would cost a large amount of money to have it back.

Just a reminder that should anyone find a car parked outside your house that is legal, then you can not send any anonymous letters to the owners address or leave a note on its windscreen complaining just because you don’t like where it is parked!

We have recently become aware that a number of counterfeit £20 notes have been presented at local businesses and to members of the local community.

We would advise all persons to check the validity of bank notes when accepting them and should any irregularities be noticed then please contact Sussex Police on our non emergency number 0845 60 70 999.

I held a Surgery at Friends of St Giles Church, Country Fayre at Shermanbury on Monday 25th August.

It was great to meet many of you there and talk and discuss many different matters and exchange opinions and suggestions in making things better in our Community by working together as a strong team and never give up until we find positive solutions.

Also if you witness any Anti-social driving/riding, speeding, thoughtless driving/riding, driving erratically, underage drivers/riders, tailgating, using mobile phones whilst driving, vehicles in an unsafe condition, abandoned cars and untaxed cars or motorbikes you can log this via the Sussex –wide Operation Crackdown Website www.operationcrackdown.org  or via telephone by calling 01243 64 22 22. We need your help to tackle anti-social drivers.
